Year 2 Handwriting
In Year 2 , children should form lower-case letters of the correct size relative to one another. They should start using some of the diagonal and horizontal strokes needed to join letters and understand which letters, when adjacent to one another, are best left unjoined . They should write capital letters and digits of the correct size, orientation and relationship to one another and to lower case letters , using spacing between words that reflects the size of the letters.

Spellings
Each week, your child will be sent spellings homework. Here are some strategies you could use to help them practise and remember the spellings. By the end of Year 2, children should know how to spell all of the words on the Year 2 common exception word list as well as all the words on the phonic tricky word lists.
